Omanga lands state job after rejecting another appointment
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi announced the trio's appointment, effective November 8, 2024, in a Gazette notice.
Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has been appointed as a board member of the Local Authorities Provident Fund (LAP FUND), joining two other new appointees, Samuel Kariuki Maina and Beatrice Kones.

The appointment, under Section 5(1)(a) of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, grants the three board members a three-year term.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5 (1) (a) of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, as read together with Section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints—Samwel Kariuki Maina, Beatrice Kones, and Millicent Nyaboke—to be members of the Board of the Local Authorities Provident Fund for three (3) years, with effect from November 8, 2024," read the Gazette notice in part.
Established in 1960, the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) regulates LAP FUND, one of Kenya's oldest retirement benefits schemes that serve over 70,000 members. Its board is responsible for overseeing policies and strategies to ensure sustainable growth and effective fund management.
Omanga’s new role at LAP FUND comes just days after she declined a separate appointment by President William Ruto to the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
Her decision to step down from this environmental-focused role, originally intended to replace former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu, was attributed to personal reasons.
"I’m deeply honoured and grateful to H.E. William Ruto for the trust you’ve shown in appointing me to serve on the Nairobi Rivers Commission," Omanga expressed on her X account.
"It’s truly a privilege to be considered for such a vital role in improving our beloved Nairobi’s environment and public health; however, after careful consideration, I must respectfully decline the appointment due to personal reasons."
